At all times, CDs and DVDs are use to install our Operating System on our computers since the introduction of CDs and DVDs media. With the evolution of laptops with slimmer design, netbook emerging, an external optical drives or an USB drive is usually needed.
Under several conditions and situations, it has been proven that the use of a USB thumd-drive can be very handy:
- When you are trying to install Windows on a netbook or your optical drive is broken
- When you want to create a live USB from an ISO image (requires some extra effort)
- Theoretically, the transfer speeds should be better and the installation process is a little faster
- You can protect your original install media from wear and tear.
There are various methods to create a bootable USB drive, however, most of the methodology requires the files to be copied over manually, which causes and more susceptible to mistakes. Fret no more, this software, WinToFlash is here to make your life a better 1 and simplify the task lots faster and easier with the wonder of automation.
WinToFlash can be downloaded from here and best of all, it is a portable application, where you will need to extract the zip file and you are good to go. Fire up the WinToFlash application, load your Windows CD / DVD, plugin your USB flash drive and specify the drive paths. Click on ‘NEXT’ and relax yourself with cup of coffee while waiting for the WinToFlash creating the bootable USB drive from the installation media.
**Take note that the duration of time taken varies depending on the size of the installation media and the performance of the machine**

WinToFlash can also be used transfer Preinstalled Environments (PE’s) to a flash drive. To do so, browse to the ‘Tasks’ tab and choose the appropriate option which fits your need.

If you intend to create a bootable USB thumbdrive from an ISO image, it will take a little bit more steps as the WinToFlash does not allow you to specify an ISO image as the source for Windows file. As a resolution, you may achieve it by one of the following below:

* Extract the ISO file, which can be achive by using 7-zip, WinRar and a few more (Google yourself)
* Virtually mount the ISO image (try Virtual CD-ROM control panel) and specify the virtual drive as the Windows file path in WinToFlash.

Once above steps done, the rest of the process remain unchanged and you will get a bootable USB drive after successful completion. Happy booting…
